Chelsea set to sell 27-year-old Italian defender this summer

Chelsea full-back Davide Zappacosta could be forced to depart from the club before the end of the summer transfer window.

According to The Mirror, Newly appointed Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard has decided to put his faith in youth and defender Reece James is believed to be second-choice at right-back position next season.

This would make Italy international defender third in line to start and make him consider his future at the West London club with the transfer window set to shut down next month.

The report claims that Davide Zappacosta has not made enough of an impact at the club since joining them from £23m from Italian outfits Torino back in 2017.

James, meanwhile, was named in the Championship Team of the Season last campaign after an impressive loan spell at Wigan Athletic.

The 19-year-old right-back has played also in holding midfield and could now be given a chance by former Derby boss, Frank Lampard to make his mark in the Premier League at Chelsea.

Cesar Azpilicueta, the Blues skipper, is the current first-choice at the right-back position.

Meanwhile, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta insists that the Blues are capable of closing the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City in order to challenge them for the Premier League trophy this campaign, despite finishing 26 points behind from the Citizens.

The West London club are also believed to be in the middle of a transfer ban, however, Cezar Azpilicueta is optimistic about the season ahead, Frank Lampard’s first since returning to the Stamford Bridge as a manager.
