Chelsea started talks with €40m-rated Premier League centre-back

Chelsea and Man United have both registered an interest in Wesley Fofana and know how much they will need to cough up to secure the services of the star defender from Leicester City. The Foxes will demand €80m to part ways with U21 France international in a bid to ward off any outside interest for their prized asset this summer.

Wesley missed a large chunk of the 2021/222 campaign, only gone after picking up a serious fibula fracture just before the start of the season. Fofana eventually managed to work his way back into the Foxes towards the end of the season, playing 12 games across the PL and Conference League.

Nevertheless, it appears suitors have not forgotten the quality and potential that he exhibited in his debut campaign in the English top-flight, where he made a name for himself as one of the PL’s finest young defenders with his stellar performances for Leicester City.

The 21-year-old centre-back was signed by Ligue 1 club Saint Etienne for a reported fee of €35m in 2020 as a replacement for Maguire, and he became an instant hit with Leicester City’s faithful thanks to his classy defensive performances.

However, with the Foxes failing to qualify for any European competition, his future is now up in the air. Having already tied the French defender down to a new deal that runs until 2027, the ball is pretty much in Leicester City’s court.
