Former Ajax and Netherlands ace Andy van der Meyde has questioned Hakim Ziyech’s decision to join Chelsea, who he says are ‘not a top team or a stable club’.
It was approved last week that Chelsea had agreed a £36.6million deal to sign Morocco international Ziyech from Ajax.
The 26-year-old playmaker, who starred in the Dutch club’s impressive run to the Champions League semi-finals last campaign, will become Frank Lampard’s first signing as Chelsea manager.
Van der Meyde says Hakim Ziyech is ‘ready’ to play for an elite club but has revealed his surprise that the playmaker opted to join Premier League side, Chelsea.
The former Ajax and Netherlands attacking midfielder told Dutch outlet VTBL: ‘It’s time for him to leave. Hakim is ready, he has to take the next step.
‘The Eredivise is a training party for Ziyech. It makes sense that he looking for a new team. You need that as a top athlete.
‘I just didn’t expect him to go to Chelsea. I don’t think it’s a top team nor a stable club. I would have expected Bayern Munich or someone of that size.
