Chelsea urged to back Maurizio Sarri with £70m-rated striker

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has tipped his former club to sign Robert Lewandowski or Mauro Icardi this summer. Chelsea are facing a transfer ban, but former player believes the Blues are in ‘desperate need’ of a new striker to lead their attack.

Gonzalo Higuain’s arrival on loan from Juventus is yet to bear fruit for Maurizio Sarri, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes the club need to dip into the transfer market again.

‘Chelsea are in desperate need of proven firepower so I would love to see them make a move for Lewandowski or Icardi this summer,’ Hasselbaink old Bwin.

‘Icardi would be my preference as I’m a little bit worried about Lewandowski’s age. ‘I think Icardi is a more realistic target while also being more likely to adapt to the Premier League. Lewandowski is a superb striker but he is the wrong side of 30.’

Mauro Icardi is a superstar at Inter but has had a spectacular falling out with the side and manager in recent months. The 26-year-old ace was frozen out of the squad for an entire month after his spouse and representative made comments to the press about his teammates.

The situation has since been resolved and the Argentina international netted his 16th goal of the campaign on his return to action last month. Inter Milan value their prized asset at around £70 million, but Chelsea must first await the result of their transfer ban appeal before arranging plans to sign new players in the summer.
