Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly had a £16m bid for Arsenal transfer target and Flamengo playmaker Gerson turned down by the Brazilian outfit.
The 23-year-old, who has made a return to his native Brazil last summer following an underwhelming stint at Serie A giants, AS Roma, has amassed four goals from 43 games across all competitions for the Brasileirao champions.
Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on Gerson, and Spurs are believed to have made contact with Flamengo regarding over a potential move in the summer.
However, according to Goal, the Club World Cup finalists have turned down the Spurs advances for the midfielder.
The report suggests that Gerson is determined to prove his worth at Brazilian outfits, with head-coach Jorge Jesus expressing his desire to keep hold of several vital players despite the financial implications arising from the coronavirus pandemic.
Gerson’s current contract at Flamengo is set to end in 2023 and both Arsenal and Tottenham should pay his full release clause in order to lure away from the Brazilian outfits.
Meanwhile, another Brazilian talent Vinicius Junior has been rumoured with a switch to Liverpool and Arsenal ahead of the 2020/21 season with Zinedine Zidane not considers South American talent in his future plans.
