Manchester United have been communicated by representatives of Cristiano Ronaldo to notify them the player is looking to move, according to reports.
The future of the Real Madrid forward is yet again the case of speculation amid suggestions he is unhappy at the Bernabeu.
The Daily Record report that the Ballon d’Or holder is willing to fight for a move to another club.
He’s said to be unhappy that his salary has been overshadowed by Lionel Messi and Neymar and a noted lack of recognition for his recent achievements.
Ronaldo has requested that Real Madrid set their selling price at £89million or less – well below his release clause of £887m.
Speaking recent about Ronaldo’s future, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane said: ‘What I think is that Cristiano – what he has done and what he is doing – deserves all of the club’s respect. But only after the winter break will we talk about it.’
If Ronaldo is serious about wanting to move, it represents a significant recent shift in his stance. After picking up his fifth Ballon d’Or award earlier this month, he said he wanted to stay at Real Madrid for the rest of his career.
‘I hope I can play at the greatest level for a few more years. The battle continues with Messi. We’re doing the best we can for our teams. I think things are happening for a reason,’ he said.
‘I feel good, let’s see what happens in the future.
I’m happy at Real, and I want to stay and finish my career there if possible.’ Ronaldo’s former club Manchester United have held a long-term interest in trying to re-sign him should the opportunity arise.
