Teenage Brazilian striker Gabriel Martinelli has been watched up close by Arsenal scouts.
The Gunners were first linked with the starlet earlier this month following the 17-year-old’s impressive performances for local fourth-division outfit Ituano, where ex-Middlesbrough midfielder Juninho Paulista is club president, netting four goals and setting up three more.
According to UOL Sport, the Premier League club’s interest has only increased since watching Gabriel Martinelli up close, and they are now believed to step forward with an offer.
Unai Emery’s side may face competition from a couple of domestic rivals, as Crystal Palace and Watford have also been tipped to make a move.
The report adds that Arsenal are ready to hand over €8m (£6.85m) for the Brazilian rising star, who is close to obtaining an Italian passport, helping to smooth out a future move to England to get the work permit.
Leeds United were also keen on signing the teenager, who has also spent time with both Manchester United and Barcelona.
But the South American starlet now looks set for a move to Emirates after a fee of £7 million was agreed between the two sides with the deal set to be completed in the summer.
Eight Brazilian players have represented Arsenal’s first-team throughout their history and supporters will be hoping Gabriel Martinelli can develop into another.
Arsenal have done a great job giving young players chance to shine in the Premier League as well as in the Europa League where they suffered tough loss against Rennes.
