Blues interest in Kai Havertz has taken a new twist as the midfielder is reportedly open to delaying his Bayer Leverkusen exit by 12 months, but he wants his future sorted by the end of the summer window.

Bundesliga giants appears to have accepted that Germany international wants to take the next step in his career. Blues are among a host of European powerhouses who are keeping close tabs on the 21-year-old playmaker.

Frank Lampard is looking to get his summer business done early and has already captured Ajax ace Hakim Ziyech and RB Leipzig centre-forward Timo Werner. If Leverkusen’s £70m valuation is met then Kai will be allowed to leave.

But Havertz is open to remaining with his current club for another year. However, he wants a transfer to be sorted for 2021 so he does not have another 12 months of speculation.

Chelsea manager has yet to make a formal approach for Kai, and Bundesliga icon Own Hargreaves thinks the Leverkusen ace should remain with his current set-up. “I think he might have to join the queue,” Hargreaves said.

“Everyone is in that queue, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Man Utd. Kai Havertz is the real deal, he’s only 21 but he’s the quickest ever to score 25 goals in the Bundesliga.”
