Done deal: Man United agreed £80m deal for Serie A target

Manchester United have agreed on a £80million deal with Lazio for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to various reports. Michael Carrick’s impending retirement and the likely departure of Marouane Fellaini means Jose Mourinho is desperate to strengthen his midfield area.

The Premier League side were initially hesitant to meet the Serie A side’s demanding price, but with several other European heavyweights keeping close tabs on the 23-year-old, the Red Devils have opted to break the bank to sign one of their primary summer targets, according to The Sun.

Savic is seen as the ideal foil for compatriot Nemanja Matic, who Metro.co.uk understands is being viewed as a potential club captain next season, along with David de Gea. Manchester United spent £140m last summer and the Portuguese manager will be handed a similar amount plus any fees from player sales to reinvest this time around.
The likes of Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind could raise as much as £60m in transfer fees, while Anthony Martial alone could command close to £50m.
