BBC pundit Chris Sutton thinks that Frank Lampard would refuse the opportunity to sign new players in the winter transfer window if Chelsea’s ban was lifted.
The Blues have been impressive so far this campaign and enter the international break with an eight-point more over fifth-placed Sheffield United, putting them in an excellent position for another year of Champions League football.
Chelsea’s excellent performances have come despite a FIFA-imposed transfer embargo lingering over the club, which has meant that Frank Lampard has been unable to bring any new joinings into Stamford Bridge.
However, as he has utilised several young players in West London and has got the best out of them, Sutton has asked whether he would be interested in signing fresh faces in the winter.
“The form that they are in now, why can’t they knock on the top of the league? The start they’ve had to the season has been incredible, to be where they are in such a short space of time,” he told BBC Radio 5Live.
“If you offered Frank Lampard a transfer window in January, do you think he’d really want to buy? That may actually add to the confusion at Chelsea. That might kill the plan.
