Hellas Verona in the battle for €20m-rated Arsenal defender

Pablo Mari could become a target for Hellas Verona, with the centre-back free to leave the London club in the summer transfer window. The Spanish defender finished the campaign strongly at Udinese, and their ex-coach Gabriele Cioffi set to demand the centre-back at Hellas Verona.

The 28-year-old centre-back proved he has the mettle to continue playing in Europe after spending half a campaign with Udinese since winter. The Spaniard left the Gunners on a dry loan to the Serie A club in the winter transfer window and put himself firmly in the market.

After playing the first two matches of the campaign at Emirates, Pablo quickly dropped down the pecking order, as the Spanish manager never selected the defender until his departure in winter. Instead, Arsenal preferred to play with Gabriel and Ben White, with Holding as the London club’s third defender.

Mari feels he can continue to pursue his career in Serie A, and the Gunners are willing to entertain offers. Milan were briefly interested in the player and may yet come back for the centre-back if they fail to bring in their priority targets at the defence.

Hellas Verona are the latest team to show an interest in Pablo Mari, with coach Gabriele Cioffi pushing the Serie A team to approach Arsenal. The Verona coach managed Pablo Mari last campaign at Udinese and is keen on a reunion at the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium.
