Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi wants assurances over playing time next campaign before agreeing to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
The 18-year-old winger is currently sidelined with an Achilles injury that has scuppered Bayern Munich’s dreams of signing him this summer.
The German giants had three bids turned down for the winger in January, and Callum Hudson-Odoi handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a move to Allianz Arena.
Callum Hudson-Odoi’s playing time increased in the second half of the campaign, but the forward is entering the final year of his deal in west London, and the Blues are desperate to ensure that he signs a new one.
The club have offered Callum Hudson-Odoi the no.10 shirt vacated by Eden Hazard as an indication of their belief in the Englishman, but the attacker wants greater assurances.
The England international only cares about playing time and wants a guarantee that he will be part of the first-team plans next season before inking a new contract.
Part of the delay is also down to the uncertain future of Maurizio Sarri, who was reluctant to blood Callum Hudson-Odoi last campaign, but he has expected to join Juventus in the coming weeks.
That would likely improve the Blues’ chances of keeping the winger beyond next season, but the winger will want to speak to the Blues’ next manager before making a final decision.
Meanwhile, Chelsea held talks with club hero Frank Lampard over replacing Maurizio Sarri.
