Injury boost: German defender returns to training ahead of 2019/20 season

Chelsea have been handed a huge injury boost ahead of next campaign as German defender Antonio Rudiger posted a positive injury update on his Twitter account.

The Germany international defender has posted a video of himself training and working hard with the ball on Twitter, as he on his way to make a return from the hip problem he sustained in April against Manchester United and ironically he could start 2019/20 season against the Red Devils.

Rudiger missed the blues last five games of the 2018/19 season, including the Europa League victory against the Gunners and both legs of the semi-final against Bundesliga outfits Eintracht Frankfurt, however, the defender appears to be recovering well ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The Blues kicked off their pre-season with a friendly 1-1 draw with Irish outfit Bohemians on Wednesday night, in what is set to be Lampard’s first game in charge since being named as a replacement for Maurizio Sarri.

Reece James Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have all also stepped up their respective recoveries from injury ahead of next campaign.

Meanwhile, Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to sign a new Chelsea deal after meeting with new head-coach Frank Lampard and being guaranteed vital role in the first team for the upcoming season.

The 18-year-old has been a target for German champions Bayern Munich over the last campaign, with the Bundesliga club making a number of bids of up to £35m for his services in January transfer window.

Bayern were expected to come back in with a fresh offer however, signing a new long-term contract would see the German champions to back-off.
