Jurgen Klopp hopes that Roberto Firmino will be fit for Liverpool’s Champions League final with the striker set to return to full training on Thursday.
A muscle strain meant the Brazil international missed Liverpool’s last three games of the Premier League campaign, as well as the second leg of the side’s semi-final win over Barcelona.
The Merseysiders are preparing for the final at their Marbella training camp this week and Roberto Firmino has been working with the club’s medical staff to ensure he has the best possible chance of featuring at Wanda Metropolitano.
Jurgen Klopp is optimistic that key striker will be available on to face Tottenham as he looks to step up his recovery in the coming days.
‘Bobby looks really good [and] he is now part of training,’ Klopp said. ‘It was not too long out, but of course, we are still careful and want to make sure nothing happens.
‘We have a few days still and want to use them, that’s why he is in, out, in, out. Yesterday, he was only playing as a ‘joker’ [in the small-sided games], but it is good for him, the first step to play football again.
‘Today he was in around about 70 per cent of the session. ‘Tomorrow he will probably be in completely, we will see, then hopefully it will be fine.’
Meanwhile, it was reported that Jyrgen Klopp wants to sell Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer transfer window as the German is unpleased with the attacker’s performances.
