Donny van de Beek is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a move in the summer transfer window. Man United could be on his way to the Catalan club soon, with the Blaugrana considering a possible loan move.
The Netherlands international joined Red Devils from Ajax last summer, arriving at Old Trafford as Man United’s marquee signing of the window. However, the 2020/21 campaign ended up being one to forget for van de Beek, who has gone from being a mainstay for Ajax to a bit-part player for Man United.
While he turned out 36 times in all tournaments, Donny managed only 15 starts, which is a paltry figure considering Man United played 61 matches last term. It also came with a decline at the international level, with the 24-year-old midfielder losing his spot as a regular for the Dutch national side.
But, it has not deterred possible big-name suitors, with Blaugrana interested in signing him. It is no longer a secret that the Blaugrana are in the market for a midfielder this summer, and for good reason.
Miralem Pjanic and Philippe Coutinho are reportedly surpluses to requirements at Barcelona while the future of one of last campaign’s breakout stars, Moriba is uncertain, amid a contract standoff as well as links with Man United.
Therefore, it is hardly surprising that the Blaugrana wish to sign a central midfielder this summer, with Gini Wijnaldum being their initial target. However, the ex-Liverpool midfielder chose to join PSG instead, and the Catalan giants have now turned their attention towards his compatriot Donny van de Beek.
