Romelu Lukaku has dominated the headlines in recent weeks after his comments on Inter Milan and how he regrets leaving the Nerazzurri in favour of a comeback to Chelsea. Belgium international’s interview has left the majority of the Blues supporters upset despite the centre-forward’s subsequent apology.
Romelu’s struggles on and off the pitch have compelled the Blues owner Roman Abramovich to ponder a potential sale. The Russian oligarch is even willing to sanction Lukaku’s exit if he can recoup the eye-catching €115m investment he made in the summer.
It has put several top clubs on red alert, including PSG. Having scored 64 goals in 95 competitive games for the Nerazzurri, many believed the 28-year-old striker was the missing piece of the jigsaw Chelsea needed to truly compete with Man City for the PL title this campaign.
However, if his comments about Inter Milan weren’t enough, the Belgian striker has found it difficult to settle back into English football. Although injuries have been an issue, Lukaku has netted only five goals in the league so far.
It isn’t a bad return given that Romelu has played in just 13 games, but the Belgian striker’s overall contributions have been quite underwhelming.
Meanwhile, PSG are among several teams monitoring the situation of the Belgian striker. The club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi rates the footballer highly and is likely considering him as an ideal replacement for Mbappe, who is tipped to join Real Madrid in the summer when his deal runs out.
