Alban Lafont has been at Toulouse for almost four years and established himself into the Ligue 1 side’s starting XI properly in 2014/15.
While his current contract lasts until June 2020 with the French side, it seems like the 19-year-old might be up for a move to London Arsenal in the not-too-distant future.
The France u20 international has been speaking with SFR Sport and has confessed that he admired Arsenal when he was younger.
“I’ve liked them since I was young – I’d watch the matches of Robin van Persie,” stated Lafont.
Arsenal are in need of a new goalkeeper.
Petr Cech is ageing, and there’s no way David Ospina can realistically be a long-term option.
Keeping this in mind, it might make sense to monitor young goalkeepers such as Lafont, who could be developed into an Arsenal no.1.
This season, the teenage keeper has kept just 12 clean sheets in 30 appearances, which isn’t the best record, but Toulouse as a team aren’t doing fantastically right now. They’re currently down in 16th in Ligue 1.
While Arsenal do need a goalkeeper and 19-year-old apparently knows it, most French players have grown up watching Arsene Wenger’s club, so his comments aren’t precisely out of the ordinary.
