Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a deal for highly-rated La Liga defender Aissa Mandi.
The 28-year-old played a vital role in the heart of the Real Betis defence during the 2019-20 season, playing 30 games across all competitions for the Spanish outfits.
However, Mandi’s current contract with Real Betis is set to end at the end of next campaign, and the defender is supposedly seeking pastures new ahead of the 2020-21 season.
According to beIN SPORTS, the Merseyside Reds have had a bid of £9m for Mandi accepted by Betis, and the Algeria international is believed to join up with the defending Premier League champions.
The report suggests that Jurgen Klopp is keen to add defensive reinforcements to his side after Dejan Lovren’s move to Zenit St Petersburg.
However, should a deal for Mandi fail to materialise, Premier League outfit,s Newcastle United are believed to be ready and waiting to pounce for the versatile centre-back.
Meanwhile, Liverpool also eyeing a summer move for another La Liga defender Diego Carlos, however, they will face stiff competition from Manchester City and Manchester United.
