Liverpool eyeing move for Serie A giants veteran shot-stopper

Liverpool will turn their attention to a familiar face this summer as they want to sign Pepe Reina, who is set to leave Napoli at the end of the season even if they win Serie A.

The Reds are looking for a goalkeeper with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius and Marca reports Liverpool could nip in to bring the 35-year-old back to Anfield. AC Milan were leading race to sign the shot-stopper, but Jurgen Klopp is keen due to Reina’s Premier League experience.

The Spaniard spent eight seasons with the Merseyside club, clocking up almost 400 appearances for them. He won four trophies during his time at Anfield including the FA Cup in 2006 and League Cup in 2012 and club legend Phil Thompson believes Karius needs replacing.

“Let the lad enjoy his celebration time of getting to a Champions League final,” Thompson said.“Yes, he will probably (still be the No one after the final). Do I think that he should be changed? Probably.

Reina had a year on loan at Napoli before a move to Bayern Munich where he made just three appearances during his single season in Germany and has helped limit the opposition to only 26 goals in league with Napoli possessing the second best defensive record.
