Calciomercato claims that Liverpool are fond of Olympique Lyonnais wide forward Memphis Depay. However, the Reds are not the only club keeping a close eye on the Netherlands international as direct rival, Tottenham Hotspur are also being linked with him by the same source.
Since signing Lyon from Manchester United in the summer of 2017, the Dutch striker has played some of the best football of his career in the Ligue 1. The PSV Eindhoven academy product has scored 50 goals and provided 42 assists in a total of 130 games for the French giants across all competitions.
The 25-year-old has made a brilliant start to this campaign as well after netting 11 goals and creating one assist in 14 matches for Rudi Garcia’s side on all competitions. When firing on all cylinders, he can be destructive in attack.
Depay has been a vital part of the Netherlands national team and did well to support his country make it through to the UEFA Nations League final that was held in Portugal earlier this year. Though, the Dutch players finally ended up losing to Portugal with a 1-0 scoreline. Depay has scored 19 goals in 51 international matches for his country thus far.
The Dutch dynamo will be a smart signing for the European champions if they can find a way to bring him to Anfield in the future. The likes of Georgino Wijnaldum and Virgil Van Dijk could also make life easier for Depay in England as they are international teammates. At this moment, the reds outfit has more pressing issues to deal with as they have a season-defining showdown coming up against the Premier League champions, Man City this weekend. So any transfer decisions will have to wait until at least winter or the end of this season.
