Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez had barely arrived in Lisbon this summer when he was linked to Liverpool. The 21-year-old midfielder had a quick start with the Eagles and it was soon claimed the Merseyside giants, who were already interested in signing him from River Plate, would now like to try to take him from Portugal.
But despite the rumours about a quick move for Fernandez, this transfer shouldn’t happen in the coming months. The Portuguese outlet writes that Enzo is focused on continuing with his adaptation to European football at Benfica. Argentina international likes everything the Eagles have been offering him and is in no rush for an exit.
It’s said the Argentine midfielder ‘knows’ there are other teams following him, and that’s where the report brings the Reds in, claiming Liverpool are one of those who ‘don’t rule out’ going for his signing in ‘short or medium term’.
The big belief is that both the Argentine and Benfica wouldn’t accept a winter move, so that’s a reason for the interested teams to wait at least until next summer. The South American midfielder is protected by a €120m release clause, so the Reds would need to spend big to convince Benfica to change their mind in the winter market.
Liverpool have secured the signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica in the 2022 summer transfer window. Uruguay international joined the Merseyside giants after their talisman Mane left for Bayern Munich.
