The German boss has reportedly urged his club not to miss out on the chance to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba. The 28-year-old defender is nearing the end of his deal at the Allianz Arena and this has unsurprisingly led to plenty of speculation over his future in recent times.
It was recently suggested, however, that the Reds were unsure about signing David due to concerns that he’s not tall enough to play centre-back for this side. Alaba is seemingly now back on Reds radar, with the German coach eager to pounce for this chance of landing such a big name in a bargain deal.
Reds need more options in the back-line after a tough campaign of injuries at the back, and it makes sense to pursue Austria international due to his current situation. The Austrian defender has enjoyed a fantastic career at Bayern and surely has what it takes to shine at Anfield, even if he’s not the tallest.
Liverpool supporters will surely not be concerned by his height after it’s become clear it’s not hindered him in any way in his career so far. A club somewhere may well make David a better offer than what Real Madrid have tabled. That seems unlikely, and less likely still that it will be the Reds.
There’s no word on whether Jurgen Klopp’s wishes are being considered. His suggestions over the need to sign a centre-back this month appear to be falling on deaf ears, and given the salary David is said to be demanding, the chances of FSG agreeing to those terms are almost non-existent.
