James Pearce has revealed that he expects that the Merseyside Reds midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum to put pen on a new deal.

The Athletic journalist highlighted that the Dutchman could sign a contract extension at Anfield, with the 28-year-old playmaker currently on £75,000-a-week salary.

Responding to a fan on a Q&A, Pearce replied to a question asking if the Jurgen Klipp’s side were still in talks with Joel Matip and Georginho Wijnaldum this campaign, to which he simply responded that he ‘expects’ both to sign new deals in the nearby future.

Wijnaldum signed a five-year-deal at Jurgen Klopp’s side back in 2016 and has gone on to play 145 games for the Reds during his time at the club, and won his first-ever trophy with the Reds last campaign beating Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final.

The 28-year-old has been an unsung hero for the Merseyside Reds over a previous couple of campaign, with the added responsibility of being the most advanced player in Klopp’s midfield area.

Dutchman has scored the most important two goals of his career against La Liga giants Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final and played a huge role in their success last campaign.

This season Liverpool faild to add anny new faces to their squad meaning that Wijnaldu still be a key player for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
