Liverpool leading race to sign 16-year-old MLS midfielder

Liverpool and Man City are monitoring the progress of Reed Baker-Whiting of MLS club Seattle Sounders. U15 USA international is a product of the Sounders’ youth setup.

Reed spent the 2020 campaign with Seattle’s USL Championship affiliate Tacoma Defiance, playing his professional debut game with them and going on to feature six more times.

Baker-Whiting featured 12 times for Defiance in the ongoing campaign as well before returning to Seattle Sounders in May earlier this year, signing his first-team deal and going on to play four games, two of which have been from the start.

Held in high regards within the club, the 16-year-old midfielder looks to be making waves outside the United States as well, with Liverpool and Man City said to be keeping tabs on his progress.

The Reds have a vast scouting network and have been keeping tabs on talents within the MLS, having previously signed Brooks Lennon from Atlanta United for their academy.

Liverpool have continued to recruit teenagers with potential as they look to strengthen their youth sides and produce footballers for the first team to follow in the footsteps of Trent and Curtis Jones.

The report also mentions Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund as well, who also have a history of signing top talents like Christian Pulisic and Giovanni Reyna from the MLS, are also looking at the American midfielder.

However, it is also stated that any move for Baker-Whiting is unlikely to take place anytime soon, with the teams only keeping tabs on him at this stage.
