Liverpool leading race to sign €20m-rated Brazilian midfielder

Liverpool will have to pay €32m to sign Joao Gomes. U20 Brazil international has stayed on their radar for quite a while. Gomes is reportedly open to the move, as per previous reports. Joao is proving his mettle at Flamengo after helping them win the Copa Libertadores at the end of October.

Following some fantastic displays, interest from across the continent remained consistent. The Reds are one of the teams following his trail. As the interest from top teams grew, Flamengo were wise enough to secure the 21-year-old midfielder to a new deal until 2027 with a €60m release clause.

The South American club knows that no team will pay such sums and is willing to accept a lower offer. As per the report, a €32m bid would suffice, and Flamengo could accept the offer. Despite positive overtures from the Reds, Liverpool have yet to make an offer. Whether the German coach will urge the club to make such an offer is not clear.

While the interest is evident, considering the Reds have followed the Brazilian midfielder for quite a while, they are also chasing other targets in the market. The midfield position has proved problematic for Jurgen Klopp this campaign, and he could consider signing someone in the winter.

Only Thiago has performed well this term. The likes of Fabinho and Henderson put in below-par performances. While the German manager addressed the problems by bringing in Arthur Melo on loan, the Juventus midfielder has since suffered a severe injury.
