Liverpool ready to activate £54m release clause of La Liga striker

Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez could be on his way to Liverpool this transfer window, as the Reds are poised to meet the striker’s release clause.

Maxi Gomez was linked with a move to Liverpool, West Ham and Tottenham in the winter, though Celta Vigo were keen to keep hold of their prized asset until the end of the campaign as they attempt to avoid relegation.

The 22-year-old has netted 13 goals in La Liga this term, and the Reds are understood to be ready to meet his £43 million release clause this summer, The Guardian claims.

West Ham and Tottenham are also ready to match his release clause, as the race for the hitman heats up.

Celta Vigo will almost certainly lose the striker if they are relegated from La Liga this season, and they currently find themselves just three points clear of the drop zone with one league match remaining.

Liverpool meanwhile are keen on signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig as the chief of Bundesliga club also confirmed that the Germany international might be open to signing for Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds would welcome the striker warmly as the Anfield side lacked a natural scorer when Jurgen Klopp’s men failed in front of the goal during the mid-season.

Manchester City used this drought to move ahead of the title-chasers and since that Pep Guardiola’s men never looked back in the Premier League title race as they won the title for the second time in a row.
