Liverpool targeting 20-year-old Benfica star

Liverpool are eyeing a swoop for Benfica B ace David Tavares after the youngster impressed scouts during the friendly before the Champions League final.

Jurgen Klopp’s team took part in a friendly against Benfica B before the Champions League clash with Tottenham, and David Tavares is understood to have impressed the scouts.

The Reds are eyeing a move for the 20-year-old, but no official offer has been made as of yet.

The European champions were impressed by David Tavares’ physicality and aggression in midfield in the friendly, and his tackling ability was also said to have caught the attention.

The Portuguese had been set to break into the first team last campaign before sustaining an ankle injury which ruled him out for the majority of the season.

David Tavares is understood to feature in the senior squad next year, however, if Liverpool do not pursue a move for the youngster.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Sporting Lisbon’s academy and was then snapped up by Benfica back in 2016 after impressing for the Under 19 side.

The midfielder is yet to make his debut but has featured 18 times in all competitions for Benfica’s B team.

The youngster has represented Portugal at U17, U18 and U19 level, making seven total appearances.

Though the Portuguese is yet to make his first senior appearance, David Tavares did enough to impress the Premier League giants and begin speculation linking him with a move to Merseyside club.
