Chelsea have missed out on the signing of Samuel Edozie, with Manchester City snapping the teenager up instead.
The Mirror have confirmed that Samuel Edozie has joined the English champions from Millwall.
The deal is understood to be worth a minimum of £1 million, despite the 16-year-old’s contract expiring.
As well as Chelsea, it is understood that other Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal were also keeping a close eye on the youngster.
The winger will head into Manchester City’s much-acclaimed academy, where the Nigerian will look to rise through the ranks and eventually represent Pep Guardiola’s team.
Such is his potential, Samuel Edozie was already playing for Millwall’s U18s last season, despite his young years.
Chelsea will now have to look elsewhere for young prospects, but they can not sign senior players this transfer window, due to their two-window transfer ban.
But Mateo Kovacic has been able to sign permanently from Real Madrid because the World cup finalist was registered at Chelsea last August when Maurizio Sarri brought him on loan from Santiago Bernabeu.
Now the Croatian midfielder has signed a five-year contract with the Blues which means that he will stay for some time at Stamford Bridge and the arriving manager Frank Lampard will surely help the 25-year-old develop his game in the middle of the park with the former England international being one of the best midfielders in the football history.
