Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne appears open to moving to Man United in the summer of 2022. Italy international is currently in the final year of his deal at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
As things stand, his first relationship with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis continues, and both sides have yet to agree on him penning an extension. Insigne is one of the most recognizable names in Serie A. His reputation has only risen after playing a starring role in Italy’s successful Euro 2020 run earlier this summer.
Napoli appears keen to keep hold of Lorenzo but wants the winger to take a pay cut while staying put. The 30-year-old winger, however, is in no mood to meet the demand and is instead seeking a raise. Napoli are set to offer the Italian forward €4.6m per year, which falls well short of the €7m, including bonuses he is seeking.
De Laurentiis believes his offer is generous given the current financial climate and Napoli’s difficulties. Lorenzo is not short of options and could find his demands met elsewhere. Insigne appears open to a new challenge abroad, and Man United have been mentioned as an interested party.
Meeting Lorenzo’s demand of €7m per year will only make him the club’s 17th best-paid footballer. Clearly, what is an ocean for Napoli is a drop in the bucket for Man United.
