Man United in the hunt to sign 22-year-old Bundesliga centre-back

Man United are reportedly ready to go head-to-head with Liverpool, Man City, and Bayern Munich in the race to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano. France international joined RB Leipzig from RB Salzburg for only £9m back in 2017 and has since gone on to emerge as one of Europe’s most highly-rated defenders.

Upamecano’s defensive style of strength, pace, and technical ability has caught the eye of some of the sport’s biggest names including PL trio Man United, Man City, and Liverpool. Red Devils are one of three English teams interested in landing the Bundesliga star.

The German outlet’s report mainly focuses on the Bavarians ‘well known’ interest in Dayot, however, it is understood that the Bundesliga giants will be unable to make an official move until David Alaba’s future is decided. Red Devils and City all open to the possibility of making an approach as early as January.

David has entered into his final year with the Bavarians and it is still unknown whether or not the Austrian left-back will commit his future to Hans-Dieter Flick’s side or move on. The report also goes on to claim that the Bavarians may be running out of time in the battle to secure the 22-year-old centre-back’s services with Liverpool.

It has been stated that Man City could be the least likely out of the English trio to sign the French striker due to their huge summer spending on defensive duo Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias. Liverpool and Reds on the other hand could well fast-track their defensive plans due to both clubs desperately in need of reinforcements.
