Football Espana claims that Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez is one of six players listed as being required by Manchester United.
24-year-old Saul Niguez is one of the leaders of the current Spanish giants, and he has won five trophies with the Madrid team. The Spain international signed an eight-year deal before the start of the 2018-19 campaign, but he has a €150m release clause in his agreement.
While Man United have been concentrating on signing young, homegrown players who can help build the bright future at the club, there is a realisation that they may need to bring in some more experienced players as well as international talents – possibly in winter.
The Red Devils haven’t been scared to splash the money, having broken the transfer record for a centre-back by signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City for £80million in the summer transfer window.
They also spent £50million on Aaron Wan-Bissaka to reinforce their right-back position. And both Maguire and Wan-Bissaka improving the defence that had conceded a miserable 55 goals in the Premier League last season.
Solskjaer absolutely cannot carry on for the rest of 2019/20 with the likes of Scott McTominay, Fred, Andreas Pereira and Nemanja Matic his key players alongside Paul Pogba if he is to get the club back into the top four.
The midfield area needs massive investment after Ole Gunnar Solskjarer’s side decided not to replace Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera over the summer.
Pogba’s future at Old Trafford remains unknown. If United decide to cash in on Pogba in 2020, they will undoubtedly be able to afford Saul Niguez.
Saul is among the greatest midfielders in Europe and has been an essential player for Atletico Madrid. He has made close to 260 games for Diego Simeone’s side, netting 34 goals and providing 18 assists. This season, the 24-year-old has starred in every single match for Atletico.
The Spanish midfielder is an excellent all-rounder in the middle of the park, more than capable of breaking up opposition’s play and starting counter-attacks for his team. He has been practised defensively by Simeone over the past few years, so he knows the responsibility of putting in a shift.
The 24-year-old has an attractive passing range, vision and power while possessing a wand of a left foot.
Saul is a central midfielder by position, but he can additionally operate on either wing. He’ll be an upgrade over Fred, who has confirmed to be a disastrous signing for Red Devils. Also being a left-footed player, the Elche-born star would give the Man United’ midfield a natural balance.
Saul is a top-class player, and if United manage to bring him in the summer of 2020, it would have to be regarded as an excellent business for the Premier League giants.
