Man United have reportedly identified Inter Milan centre-forward, Lautaro Martinez, as a long-term replacement for Edinson Cavani once his short-term contract at Theatre of Dreams is done.
Man United signed Edinson on a free transfer this summer, but there’s no doubt he’s only a bit of a stop-gap signing for the Red Devils and they’ll need to think ahead to bolster their front-line for the long term.
This should lead to them targeting €70m-rated Argentina international, who has shone at Inter in recent times with 33 goals in 88 matches for the club in all tournaments.
It seems clear Lautaro has a big future in the game and it would be exciting to see this promising striker move to the PL at some point. Red Devils have some decent teenagers themselves as Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood should both still improve in years to come, but Martinez could be another important signing.
The 23-year-old striker would offer something a little different to the team’s front-line and looks perfect to take the place of Cavani once his time in Man United is up. It’s reported that the Argentine striker could attract a fee in the region of £100m, but with Blaugrana stalling on a move, it has opened the door for Red Devils to enter the battle.
Man United are keen to strengthen their front-line and as such are being credited with an interest alongside Real Madrid. Whether Lautaro could be tempted by a move to Man United stays up for debate, as does the question of whether the Red Devils could afford to stump up such a substantial fee.
