Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, who is the latest footballer to be added to Man United’s transfer wishlist, will cost them at least €30m this summer. Argentina international has joined a sizeable list of players to have played under incoming manager Erik ten Hag who are being courted by Man United.
The Red Devils have been linked with moves for Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber and forward Antony, while ex-Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong is reportedly on the agenda at Theatre of Dreams as well.
The reported approaches make sense, however, as Erik ten Hag has a huge task at hand, and with familiar faces around, the process could become a little easier. The Red Devils are currently in the market for defender signings despite adding Varane, who has had a season affected by injuries, to their squad last summer.
Captain Harry Maguire has also struggled this term, forcing Man United’s hands to look for better options. Lisandro has emerged as one of the many options for the Red Devils. Martinez joined Ajax in 2019 and has since played 119 games for the Amsterdam-based club.
The 24-year-old defender has won two Eredivisie titles with them and was named their Player of the Year for their recently-concluded campaign.
But with three years remaining on his deal with the Dutch club, Man United will have to pay at least €30m for the Argentine centre-back. The South American centre-back can also play as a defensive midfielder, and his versatility could come in handy for the Red Devils.
