Man United leading race to sign 18-year-old La Liga forward

Man United want to add Barcelona winger Ansu Fati in 2020 was repeatedly reported by the Catalan media in the second half of last year. It was then suggested Jorge Mendes set up a €150m move to the Theatre of Dreams, but the Blaugrana were not interested in any possible deal.

Last month, Jorge Mendes was involved in orchestrating Cristiano Ronaldo’s comeback to Old Trafford. The Catalan giants are of the belief Spain international was discussed when the super-agent was negotiating with Man United for the Portuguese superstar’s transfer.

These discussions are labelled as ‘something normal’, given that everyone is aware Fati’s deal officially expires in 2022. Barcelona unilaterally have an option to extend his deal until 2024, which they have decided not to exercise.

That’s because the Blaugrana have trust in Ansu and his camp and confidence over reaching an agreement for a new contract. Even though there’s a suggestion the Red Devils would have asked about the Spanish winger with Mendes, the Blaugrana have made it ‘very clear’ their young star is ‘non-transferable’.

The Norwegian manager has several options from which to pick his front three, and that will improve when Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo regain full fitness. It doesn’t make sporting sense for the Red Devils to look at Ansu, especially when there is uncertainty as to how he’ll perform after returning from a severe injury.
