Man United missed out on signing €115m-rated winger

Jadon Sancho looked certain to join Manchester United in the summer before the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

The 19-year-old, who made his England debut last October, is considered as one of the most exciting attackers in European football after scoring 11 goals and assisting 14 in a scintillating first full season with Borussia Dortmund.

The Red Devils have been keeping close tabs on Jadon Sancho’s progress for some time despite his links to their rivals Manchester City where he came through the academy ranks as a youngster.

According to BBC Sport, Manchester United appeared ‘nailed on’ to land Jadon Sancho before missing out on a top-four Premier League finish. However, the publication suggests that the English side would be Sancho’s ‘preferred option’ if he were to return to his homeland in the coming months.

Despite his tender years, Jadon Sancho is desperate to start winning major trophies, and Manchester United’s failure to secure a place in Europe’s premier competition could be a stumbling block.

Sancho, valued in the region £100 million, also wants stability and now has reservations about a move to the Premier League giants after a dismal end to the season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Dortmund executive director Hans-Joachim Watzke was asked about the constant speculation surrounding Jadon Sancho’s future last month: ‘I don’t care about that. Everybody knows that Jadon will play for us next year.

‘That’s a fact, and we don’t have a price tag for him. And because everybody in Europe knows that nobody contacted us.’
