Man United and Newcastle United are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou, with the Red Devils already taking steps to bring him to Theatre of Dreams.
U21 France international came through the youth ranks at PSG but never played a first-team game for the Parisians and made the switch to Borussia Dortmund in 2017, aged only 18. While he is a promising, young centre-back, Dan-Axel has been hampered by injuries throughout his stint in Bundesliga.
In over four years at Borussia Dortmund, Zagadou has featured only 80 times, chipping in with four goals and an assist. To put his injury woes in context, the 22-year-old defender has missed 77 games with the BVB over the past four-and-a-half campaigns.
Despite his injury woes, the French defender continues to be held in high regard, with the Red Devils showing interest in securing his services.
The report claims that interim coach and transfer consultant Ralf Rangnick is the driving force behind Man United’s interest in the Frenchman, having tried to bring him to RB Leipzig in 2017, before the defender’s move to Borussia Dortmund.
The Red Devils have a packed defensive department with Varane, Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly and Jones, who has been reintegrated into the first team.
In addition, youngster Teden Mengi is also knocking on the doors while Tuanzebe will be back from his loan spell in the summer. Despite the options available, the Red Devils have hardly looked solid and assured at the defence.
