Man Utd identified £40m Chelsea star as their transfer target

Manchester United are considering a shock summer move to secure services of Chelsea defensive midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko after submitting an enquiry, according to RMC.

The 24-year-old has joined the West London club in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco back in 2017 as the Blues were in the market for Nemanja Matic’s replacement who has moved to Man Utd at that time.

However, Bakayoko has struggled badly to make an impression at Stamford Bridge and has been loaned ou buy Maurizio Sarri to AC Milan where he seemed to return his previous form and attracted interest from hosts of European teams.

Bakayoko is currently with Frank Lampard’s squad for their pre-season tour and he will have a fresh opportunity to impress the Blues new head-coach.

According to RMC, Lampard will run the rule over Bakayoko during the Blues tour to decide whether or not keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Man Utd boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the lookout for a new defensive minded midfielder as he is looking Ander Herrera’s replacement also with doubts continuing to surround the future of last Paul Pogba.

The World Cup winner’s agent Mino Raiola has recently confirmed that his client is ready to leave the club as Real Madrid and Juventus are both ready to secure his services.

‘Everyone knows the willingness of Paul to move on. We are in the process of that,’ Raiola said, although Pogba did travel for United’s pre-season tour of Australia, Singapore and China.

The Red Devils are not the only team monitoring Bakayoko’s situation at Stamford Bridge as PSG are also reportedly keen on to lure the box-to-box midfielder at Parc de Princess.

The Ligue 1 champions’ sporting director Leonardo took Bakayoko to AC Milan last year.

Bakayoko played 31 Serie A games for Italian giants last season, founding back of the net one goal and providing a further assist as the team finished 5th in the table.

Solskjaer has made two new signings already this summer with Aaron Wan-Bissaka joining them for £50m along with Daniel James £18m move from Swansea City.
