Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted Manchester United supporters could expect a busy winter transfer window following his side’s 4-0 demolition of AZ Alkmaar.

Manchester United ended their Europa League group game campaign in style at Old Trafford, with goals from Mason Greenwood, Ashley Young and Juan Mata securing an extraordinary victory.

The win secured Manchester United top seeding in the draw for last-32 of the Europa League and showcased their young prospect, with 18-year-old wonderkid Greenwood scoring a brace.

Manchester United have been massively linked with a host of players ahead of the January window, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer targeting the signing of two midfielders and a forward.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked about his plans for winter after the AZ Alkmaar game, saying: ‘We are looking to strengthen in many positions.

‘We are getting there but we still need two or three players to have enough numbers.’

Manchester United have been credited with an interest in the likes of James Maddison, Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho and Saul Niguez.

The Red Devils might find it hard to convince their top targets to switch clubs mid-way through a campaign, but Manchester United are ready to provide Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with transfer funds if the right players become available.

Academy graduate Greenwood starred for Manchester United versus AZ Alkmaar, and the goal-fest came after a sluggish first-half showing from the home side.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explained after the match he needed to rally his troops after a lacklustre first 45 minutes.

‘I told them to be more us [at half-time], be more Man United,’ he said.

‘I know it’s difficult for players when you change but in the second half we just found a rhythm, made more passes forward, more runs forward, were pressing and got our goals.’
