According to reports Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen has held discussions with Man United over a potential transfer in the winter transfer window.
The Denmark international’s current deal with Spurs expires at the end of the campaign, which means he could move on a free transfer in the summer.
But Spurs could use the winter window as their final opportunity to recoup a transfer fee for the midfielder.
Real Madrid also registered their interest in joining Eriksen earlier this year, but the Dane was not their first-choice target to reinforce their midfield.
According to El Desmarque, Eriksen is now ‘tired of waiting for Madrid’ and is searching for alternative options.
One of which is a transfer to United and the report claims. Spurs’ Premier League rivals held discussions with Eriksen last month.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be keen on joining Eriksen as he views the 27-year-old as the excellent partner for Paul Pogba in United’s midfield.
The report further claims that United will offer £42 million to Spurs for Eriksen.
Earlier this week, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino defended Eriksen after the midfielder has received criticism for his performances this campaign.
‘I don’t think the performance of Christian is any different than when we signed him five-and-a-half years ago,’ said Pochettino.
‘His commitment is the same, sometimes we maybe look too much at whether a player has a one-year contract or a four-year contract.
‘In the end, it is about commitment, maybe players in the last year of their contract show more commitment than a player with four more years on their contract.
‘But when you see Christian, and you compare him to different seasons, he is the same player.’
