Marseille have not given up on the idea of signing William Saliba from Arsenal after the Olympians’ president Pablo Longoria held a meeting with the centre-back’s agent in London. However, the Gunners are not interested in selling France international who has impressed in pre-season.
Saliba’s future has caused plenty of stir among the Gunners supporters and reportedly had an impact at Marseille in the close campaign. William spent the last campaign on loan at Marseille and thoroughly impressed under Jorge Sampaoli to be named Ligue 1’s Young Player of the Year.
However, the Olympians’ inability to add the 21-year-old defender may have been the primary reason for Sampaoli’s departure. However, Marseille remain interested in making a permanent move for the French centre-back, having made several approaches so far this summer.
Ligue 1 giants can guarantee the Frenchman a starting spot in the club while also giving him an opportunity to feature in the Champions League. The Gunners only qualified for the Europa League, but the Spanish manager is keen on keeping the defender as part of his team.
Before returning for pre-season training, William confirmed his intention to stay at Emirates Stadium and fight for his place in the team. Mikel Arteta has kept faith in Saliba by making him an important part of the pre-season tour to the USA, with the defender producing fantastic displays.
The London giants are not considering entertaining offers for William Saliba, and even if they do, their asking price would be out of Marseille’s reach.
