Nabil Fekir is on the brink of completing a £26 million move to Spain after his new Lyon manager Sylvinho confirmed he’s set to depart the club.
Nabil came close to joining the Reds for more than £50 million last summer and was even pictured in a Liverpool shirt before the deal broke down because of concerns over a long-standing knee injury.
He was connected with a cut-price move to Liverpool this summer with Arsenal also reportedly interested in acquiring his services.
But according to L’Equipe , it’s La Liga side Real Betis who have appeared as the surprise destination for the Lyon playmaker, who turned 26 today.
Sevilla and Valencia have also been connected with a move and could still sign Fekir, who is said to have his future decided soon.
“It is likely that he will leave, he is in the negotiation stage. For him and the club’s good, I hope it will be resolved as quickly as possible.” – Lyon boss Sylvinho said.
“He is a wonderful player, a very high level footballer, just seeing him drive the ball to training is a joy, and I take this opportunity to publicly wish him a happy birthday.”
Fekir signing for Real Betis could open the door for the departure of Tottenham Hotspur-bound Giovani Lo Celso, who is closing in on a huge-money move to Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
The Lyon star would serve as a direct replacement for the Argentine attacking midfielder, whilst his team-mate in the national team, Tanguy Ndombele, has already sealed his move to Spurs.
