Russian striker emerged as transfer target for Unai Emery

Russian striker Aleksandr Sobolev has claimed that the Gunners sent scouts to watch him play for Kryliya Sovetov in their 2-0 victory against Sochi at the weekend. Russia international regarded as one of the most promising centre-forwards in Russia, scored both goals at the Fisht Olympic Stadium to take his tally to ten for the season.

Recent reports have credited Man United with a strong interest in Aleksandr who was recently rewarded with his first senior call-up to the Russian national team. Though Aleksandr has played down speculation linking him with a move to Theatre of Dreams, Sobolev admits it’s his ‘dream’ to compete in the Premier League.

‘Man United’s interest? I can’t even imagine how this could be,’ said the 22-year-old centre-forward. ‘Where am I, and where are Man United? ‘It is my dream to play in the Premier League, but to do so, I have to keep on scoring goals, working hard and training.’

Sovetov received information that the London club had sent scouts to watch him scoring a double at Sochi on the weekend. ‘I was told after the Sochi match that Arsenal scouts came to see me,’ Sobolev added. ‘In my opinion, this is true. I am not sure, but this is what I was told. ‘They said that the Arsenal scouts were sitting in the stand.’

Russian striker has contracted with the club until 2021, and his release clause is around €10m. Gunners set to spend considerable money on the centre-forward during the summer transfer window as Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang heavily linked with European clubs.
