Serie A giants leading race for €35m-rated Liverpool long-term target

Liverpool could be ready to miss out on Roma playmaker Nicolo Zaniolo, with Juventus set to launch a concrete pursuit this summer. Italy international has emerged as one of Serie A’s brightest youngsters and particularly caught the eye in the European tournament last campaign.

The Old Lady have contacted Roma to initiate a deal for Zaniolo, who commonly featured on the right-wing under Jose Mourinho throughout the 2021-22 season. The Bianconeri are set to accelerate their pursuit, with discussions ongoing over his possible signing.

Earlier this summer, Italian media claimed Liverpool and Tottenham had joined Milan and Juventus in monitoring Nicolo’s situation. But the latter look to be in the driving seat if they wish to push forward with a possible switch. The German coach could be searching for a new right forward amid uncertainty over Salah’s future at Anfield.

After Sadio Mane’s exit this summer, Mohamed Salah could follow him out of the door in 12 months’ time once his Reds deal expires. And the 22-year-old attacker’s ability to play on the right, as well as an attacking presence in central midfield, would undoubtedly attract Jurgen Klopp.

But it’d be a surprise to see the Reds entering a bidding war with Juventus in the current transfer window. The Reds are understood to have concluded their business with the signing of teenage Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsay. His arrival follows Fulham attacker Fabio Carvalho’s and the £85m capture of Benfica centre-forward Darwin Nunez.
