The Merseyside giants attacker Takumi Minamino is reportedly attracting interest from La Liga side Sevilla while impressing during his loan spell with Southampton. Japan international only joined Liverpool last year following an £8m switch from RB Salzburg.
However, after what has been a largely underwhelming opening 12-months with Liverpool, Takumi has found his first-team playing-time heavily restricted. In an attempt to rack-up some valuable first-team minutes, Minamino was shipped off to the South Coast to see out the remainder of the campaign with the Saints.
After what was a dream debut for the 26-year-old winger which saw him net during his new side’s PL game with Newcastle earlier this month, there are suggestions the Saints could try and make his move permanent. However, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints are likely to face competition for the Japanese winger’s signature.
The report claims Takumi, who impressed during his time at RB Salzburg stays a transfer target for Sevilla. Takumi is valued at nearly £10m, a figure Sevilla would be more than happy to pay. It is not yet known whether or the Reds will look to cash-in on their out-of-favour winger, or if they’ll look to give him a second chance.
Having made a bright start to life on the south coast, the report claimed that Sevilla director of football Monchi is a huge fan of Minamino and will do ‘everything possible’ to land Takumi at the end of the campaign.
There is no obligation or clause to buy Minamino within the deal which saw him move to the Saints on deadline day, a stipulation the German manager insisted upon for the man he hailed as an “incredible player” after the move.
