La Liga giants Barcelona have reportedly joined Arsenal in the race for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The 21-year-old centre-back who has played 29 games for his German team this campaign, is believed to be a transfer target for both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

However, according to Le 10 Sport, the Spanish giants are also now firmly in the race for the talented French defender, who could be available for £50m ahead of the 2019-20 season.

The report suggests that the Catalan club head-coach, Quique Setien views signing defensive reinforcements as his top priority when the transfer window will be re-opened in the summer.

Upamecano only has little over 12 months left before the end of his current deal with RB Leipzig, potentially placing the Bundesliga outfits under pressure to sell this summer if a new deal cannot be agreed.

Spanish giants need for a new centre-back this summer would be strengthened if Samuel Umtiti departs from the club in the summer.

Barcelona centre-back has been rumoured with a switch Arsenal and Manchester United recently and Upamecano seems to be a perfect replacement for his compatriot if the Catalan club keen on the strengthen their backline ahead of the next season.
